NCGR NEW YORK CITY ELECTIONS PROCEDURES

At each Membership Meeting in September, elections are held for two positions on the chapter Board. To keep you well informed, the following is a summary of the nomination/election procedures.

  • The Executive Board of our local chapter consists of 15 positions-6 elected offices: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, Executive Secretary and Recording Secretary--and 9 appointed Standing Committe positions.
  • Each year, 2 of the 6 elected offices are up for election. The term is 3 years for all offices.
  • The President appoints a Nominating Committee Chairperson each June with the concurrence of the Executive Board.
  • Nominations of officers are presented at the first general membership meeting in the fall.
  • If there is no contest for an office, the candidate will be automatically elected to that office.
  • There are two ways to nominate a member for office:

1. A petition signed by 10% of the NYC chapter nominates a candidate for an office. This petition must be received before the membership meeting.

2. At the membership meeting, any member whose name is offered for nomination and seconded twice becomes a candidate for that office.

  • If there is a contest, there will be a second membership meeting at which the election will be held. The second meeting will be no sooner than 30 days and no later than 60 days following the nominating meeting. Ballots will be used.
  • The Nominating Committee Chairperson will appoint one other NYC Chapter member in good standing to assist in preparing the slate of candidates and counting the ballots.
  • As always, a quorum of at least 15 members must be present at all times to conduct Chapter business.
