EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

We offer all levels and all topics of astrology all through the year, so students can choose of their own accord which classes and how many of them suit their needs best with each semester. Our Certification Program is optional. Since New York State does not as yet require a license to practice astrology, we have instituted our own examinations to insure the highest level of ethics and competency in astrologers and students.

Although we encourage our students to sit for these exams when they feel "ready," we also do not require it. The decision is most often motivated by the individual student's purpose for studying astrology. Our curriculum is taught in various styles - semester-long classes, weekend workshops, or private instruction. Our faculty, which includes the foremost astrologers in New York City, work out of their own homes throughout Manhattan, so classes are conveniently located in town and at accommodating evening or weekend hours.

The New York Chapter schedules two conferences a year. The fall conference is our Education Conference and it is here that you can explore and hear the perspective and see the style of the many teachers on the faculty who provide classes and workshops approved by the chapter throughout the year. This conference has four classes offered simultaneously all day for two entire days focused around a central theme. The subjects and levels are varied so that there is something for everyone: from the beginner to the professional.

In the spring we offer a conference with speakers not only from New York, but other locations around the country and the world. This conference also offers several classes simultaneous classes based on a particular theme.

A Brief Outline Of The Certication Program

If you are interested in achieving the Professional Certification from NCGR, you are invited to become involved with this education program.

This program consists of four levels of study and examination. A comprehensive study for all levels is available from John Marchesella. (See section on "Study Guides.")

At the completion of each level, the student receives a Certificate for Proficiency for that particular level.

Level I – Calculation and interpretation of natal charts, some simple astronomy, and basic astrological information.

Level II – Calculation and interpretations of transits, progressions and solar arc directions; additional astronomical questions and further general information.

Level III – Chart comparisons and composite charts, solar returns, horary techniques, comparative house systems, and some history of astrology, Vedic, Chinese and Mayan astrology. A take-home section covering electional astrology and the mundane astrology of a historical event comprises the second segment of the exam.

Level IV – Rectification (take-home section) followed by a taped reading of selected chart for certification as a consulting astrologer; or you may choose the instructional track or the research track for certification.

Each student may take each level as many times as needed to obtain a passing mark, but all students must begin with the first level and follow in order of exams.

Exams are held three times a year (summer, autumn and winter). Fees range from $45 to $435, depending on level and membership. Register is required in advance by mail application. Call John Marchesella for information: (212) 255-8497.
